Broiling, baking and grilling are all great cooking options, but which one is best?
Broiling and baking are cooking techniques that both use the dry heat of an oven.
Baking is a cooking method that surrounds foods with hot air to cook them indirectly, while broiling uses direct oven heat to quickly cook foods at temperatures around 550℉.
Broiling
With broiling, foods must be placed close to the broiler for the heat to successfully reach and cook them, which is usually the top rack in most ovens. Broiling may work better for thinner foods such as a thinly sliced chicken breast, hamburger, veggie burger, bean burger, hot dog, fish, or for certain types of vegetables. Baking may be better for foods that need to solidify during the baking process such as a cake mix, macaroni and cheese, or a tuna casserole.
Baking
Baking a chicken, turkey, lamb or other type of meat, however, can be a succulent, delicious way to cook food while retaining its juicy inside. Potatoes are another good choice for baking.
Grilling
Grilling is a similar process as broiling but is usually a bottom-up heat while, as mentioned earlier, broiling is a top-down heat. So pretty much any food that can be broiled can also be grilled. Foods that taste great grilled include fish, burgers, tofu, chicken, shrimp, scallops, pork chops, lobster, tofu, veggie burgers, vegetables, potatoes, eggplant and more.
